Upon graduating in 2009 with a Bachelor of Design - 3D and
Object, Tim set out to develop his own furniture range,
largely constructed from the
highest quality Birch Plywood. Tim has developed into
one of NZ's hottest emerging designers. His latest designs
feature the introduction of steel and vivid colour.
Tim's design philosophy is that furniture are objects we live
with everyday, we sit with them, we eat with them, we socialise
with them, everything we do in our homes involves interacting with
furniture in some way. They're such an integral part of our home
lives that we can begin to feel sentimentally attached to them. I
design furniture with this in mind - furniture that can be enjoyed,
admired, discussed and used. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than
to see my furniture become a part of someone's day to day life.
As a furniture designer he looks to create designs that are
fresh and innovative, yet simple. He wants to design and produce
products that create talking points in the home and provide an
element of uniqueness. Quality construction and materials are key
to great design. The solid yet decorative characteristics of my
materials are perfect for furniture as they are strong, durable and
visually stunning. In his furniture, he uses mainly European Birch
plywood as it is of the highest quality available and provides a
perfect edge, highlighting the plywood layers beautifully.
Cutting edge design is something he continues to strive to
achieve in his work,designing high quality products for the modern
New Zealand Lifestyle that will
be used for many years to come.
